Gival Press, LLC, an award-winning independent literary publishing house located in Arlington, Virginia, publishes fiction, non-fiction (essays / educational texts), and poetry. To promote writing, Gival Press sponsors four annual contests for fiction and poetry. Its publications are in English, French, and Spanish. It publishes the work of authors (poets / writers) from many walks of life who demonstrate quality and whose work has a message, be it philosophical or social. While Gival Press seeks out LGBTQ authors, for example, via its Oscar Wilde Award for poetry, the majority of its authors do not identify as such. Aside from its annual contests, Gival Press holds an open reading period for unsolicited works between May 15 to August 15.
Since it was founded in 1998 by Robert L. Giron, it has published over 60 books of which many have won national and international awards.
Because Gival Press simply can't publish as many authors as it would like in 2008, it created the online journal, ArLiJo, which features a variety of authors/poets/artists from around the globe whose work provokes readers to contemplate issues, etc. The work chosen promotes understanding and sensitivity across borders, even if initially the work may cause one to take a double-take. ArLiJo accepts both unpublished works as well as previously published work, as long as the artist/author holds the rights to the work or permission is granted by the publisher. Its reading period is from January 15 to May 15.
