Publications include The Yale Review, The Southern Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, et al. She was a Hawthornden Fellow in 2008, has received grants from The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Achill Heinrich Boll Association. She has an MFA from George Mason University, and has conducted poetry workshops at UVA’s northern Virginia campus and Johns Hopkins University Washington Center. Individual poems have received awards or commendations in contests such as the Ann Stanford Poetry Prize, the Hippocrates Poetry Prize (UK), and the Basil Bunting Poetry Award (UK), and have appeared on Poetry Daily and Verse Daily. A native of the city of the big shoulders, she has lived in the Washington DC area since 1960, and proudly voted in the District of Columbia’s first presidential election.
