Susan Okie is a doctor, a former Washington Post reporter, and a 2014 graduate of the Warren Wilson MFA Program in poetry. She first came to Washington for a summer job as a medical student, and has lived in Montgomery County, MD since 1985. Her work has appeared in Beltway Poetry Quarterly, The Gettysburg Review, The Bellevue Literary Review, Passager, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and Hospital Drive. Okie won the 2012 Bethesda Poetry Contest. She is married with two grown sons, teaches part-time at Georgetown University School of Medicine and volunteers at a safety net clinic.
